Indigenous
Stories of Strength

Indigenous Stories of Strength aims to feature the leadership and resilience of American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian communities and peoples in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Across the country, Indigenous communities are exercising innovation, cultural teachings, and collective action to survive and promote health and wellness during this historical time of loss and isolation. By bringing together and sharing these stories, we hope to reinforce a strengths-based narrative of Native communities to support frameworks for policy creation and change at tribal, regional, and national levels. We have great respect and admiration for the strategic efforts by Native-led organizations such as IllumiNative, Native Lens, Native Hope, and many others. With this project, we aim to complement these efforts to center community strengths based on our knowledge and experience in public health and challenge dominant narratives that reinforce harmful stereotypes about Indigenous peoples.
